some personal stuffs

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

It's been a long time I haven't updated my blog because I was sick for 3 weeks and at the same time the Internet around Asia was down.
I've made several items this past few weeks. First is a cross pendant, then a puffy heart and rosarios (these are order from my auntie). Hope I can post the pictures next week.

Another news is for Indonesian people, there is a competition called "Lomba Merangkai Manik Cantik". The prize is Rp 250,000.- plus the design will be included in newest book of Mia Gofar.More information can be found at http://lomba.manik-cantik.com
Too bad I can't join because my age is not old enough to compete >.<

For American, there is a competition (more exactly is a grant) from Halstead Bead,Inc.The grant is US$5000 so it should be enough to develop jewelry shop.In this competition, participants should present a business plan strategy and also extraordinary jewelry design.
Complete application details can be found at http://www.halsteadbead.com/Grant/

Rosary

Rosary
The Rosary is an important and traditional devotion of the Catholic Church consisting of a set of prayer beads and a system of set prayers. The Rosary combines vocal prayer and meditation centered around sequences of reciting the Lord's Prayer followed by ten recitations of the "Hail Mary" prayer; and one recitation of "Glory Be to the Father" one such sequence is known as a decade. A complete Rosary involves the completion of fifteen or twenty decades, as well as other prefatory and final prayers.
A set of Rosary beads contains 50 beads in groups of ten (a decade), with an additional large bead before each decade. Some have been known to have one hundred or one hundred and fifty. These numbers were chosen to match the number of psalms, or a third or two-thirds of them. Although counting the prayers on a string of beads is customary, the prayers of the Rosary do not actually require a set of beads, but can be said using any type of counting device, by counting on one's fingers, or by counting by oneself without any device at all.
The beads can be made from a wide variety of materials, including wood, bone, glass, crushed flowers, semi-precious stones such as agate, jet, amber, or jasper, or precious materials including coral, rock crystal, gilded silver and gold.Modern beads are most often glass, resin (plastic) or wood. Early rosaries were strung on strong thread, often silk, but modern ones are more often made as a series of chain-linked beads.
A rosary (Dominican) consist of :
- A Cross or Crucifix
- 53 smaller beads for Hail Mary
- 6 larger beads for Our Father
- 1 Rosary Center (piece with 3 holes)
Sacred Heart has image of Jesus; Miraculous Heart has image of Mary

A rosary bracelet is a one-decade rosary worn around the wrist. Rosary bracelets are most often made with chain, but some are also made with cord, elastic, twine, flexwire or even memory wire. A rosary bracelet has a small crucifix and a small medal -- usually a Miraculous Medal (just as with most rosaries). There are ten Hail Mary beads and one Our Father bead. Most are about 7 1/2 inches in length, but they can be adjusted by adding or removing chain.

Different clasps are used depending on the findings used to make the bracelet. Chain rosary bracelets usually have common c-spring, lobster or fish hook clasps. The same clasps can be used for cord, twine and flexwire rosary bracelets. No clasp is necessary for elastic or memory wire bracelets; these are noteworthy for being easy to wear and remove. Another, interesting clasp is a magnetic clasp. It is quite strong. If the bracelet get pulled hard, the magnetic clasp usually pulls apart harmlessly when any other clasp would have broken (or caused a breakage at some other point on the rosary bracelet).
1 Decade rosary bracelet consist of :
- 10 Hail Mary beads
- 1 Our Father beads
- 1 small Crucifix or Cross

A rosary ring is a ring worn around the finger with 10 indentations and a cross on the surface, representing one decade of a rosary. This is often worn as jewelry, and used through the day. Some ring Rosaries use a small bearing on the inside of the ring to permit easy turning.

A rosary necklace is a 5-Decade Dominican rosary -- usually a chain one -- with a clasp added making it more convenient to wear around the neck. The clasp is added near the center or in the third decade (the back of the neck). Larger rosaries do not require a clasp as long as they can fit over one's head, but most common rosaries are too small to fit over the head and so a clasp is needed.
5 Decade Dominican rosary consist of:
- 153 Hail Mary beads
- 16 Our Father beads
- 1 Rosary Center
- 1 Crucifix or Cross

yay next week to Singapore

Yay next week I'm going to Singapore to meet my bf and attend his sis's wedding.
I've already planned to go to several bead stores in Singapore. Hopefully, shops that I'll go carry items that I want.
So yeah, I'm so happy !

Tips how to ensure you are getting the real stuff

Here are some tips that can help you determine which crystals are genuine:

1. Swarovski® crystals are generally not strung when offered for sale.
2. Look for the original Swarovski® packaging. Dependant on size, the bulk packages will range from 10 gross to 1/2 gross, in well-branded, sealed envelopes. The newest Swarovski® bulk packaging is sealed with an authenticated silver toned hologram saying "CRYSTALIZED."
3. Swarovski® crystals are perfectly uniform. Since they are machine cut, each crystal is the same. This means that the height, width and slope are consistent. A hand polished imitator bead will not have as uniform a cut. You may also notice different dimensions from bead to bead.
4. Swarovski® uses machinery that precisely cuts each crystal. According to Swarovski®, "cutting hard materials such as crystal and gems, in such a way that they have a hundred identical facets in several directions, is a very complicated task; each direction of the reflected light must first be calculated by computer, then this has to be simulated in 3D, optimized and finally converted into control programs for complex machinery." This is just part of the technology that gives Swarovski® crystals their unbelievable flash.
5. The precision cutting of Swarovski® machinery allows each crystal to have its facet juncture "pointing up". This means the facet junctures all meet at precisely the same point. This is a similar aspect of diamond faceting. See the illustration above.
6. AB finish Swarovski® crystals have a uniform surface luster. There are no swirling marks from the vacuum process that produces the AB finish, and generally there are no scratches. The "imitations" often have scratches, swirl marks ("oily" looking surface). Some of these imperfections, in the "imposters", have to do with the lower quality of the finish. See the illustration above.
7. When you look inside the crystal, you will see no bubbles. If you see any bubbles, you know immediately that it is a fake.
8. Because of its special glass compounds, Swarovski® crystal will out-sparkle a bead of lesser quality when placed in a side-by-side comparison.

Beads needed for bracelet/necklace

How to determine how many beads needed for a bracelet/necklace:

* 1 inch = 24.5 mm

1. Multiply 24.5 by the number of inches of beads (excluding the clasps) in the finished length.
Example: if the finished length desired is 18 inches. So, 18 x 24.5 mm = 441 mm
2. Divide the total finished length desired by diameter of the beads to be used and the result will be the beads that needed.
Example : 441 mm : 4 mm (bicone 4 mm) = 110.25 beads
